Buhari .. 'Its an assasination attempt'

Lagos - Former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, has narrated  how he narrowly escaped an alleged assassination attempt in one of the bomb explosions that rocked Kaduna State on Wednesday.

Scores were reported dead in a twin explosion that rocked the ancient Kano city.

Reports indicted that Buhari, who was on a convoy, and prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi were the targets of the explosion.

Although no group has claimed responsibility for the bomb attack, fingers are pointed towards the Boko Haram sect which has carried similar attacks in recent times.

Narrating his experience, Buhari said he was grateful to God to have saved him from the  assassination bomb attempt along Ali Akilu Road, Kawo -Kaduna at about 2:30pm local time on his way to Daura.

He said the unfortunate event came from a fast moving vehicle that made many attempts to overtake his security car but was blocked by his escort vehicle.

"We reached the market area of Kawo where he took advantage of our slowing down and attempted to ram my car and instantly denoted the bomb which destroyed all the three cars in our convoy.

"Unfortunately, when I came out of my vehicle I saw many of dead bodies littered around. They were innocent people going about their daily business who became victims of mass murder.

"Thank God for his mercy, I came out unhurt but with three of my security staff sustaining minor injuries, they have since been treated in hospital and discharged," he said.

The twin bomb attacks left more than 80 people dead and scores other injured.
